Arduino is a useful bridge between electronics troubleshooting and software development. Start with a low-risk task that lets you observe and control a digital output.

First steps

Connect an Arduino Mega 2560 through USB, select the correct board and port in the Arduino IDE, then compile and upload the built-in Blink example.

void setup() {
  pinMode(LED_BUILTIN, OUTPUT);
}
void loop() {
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, HIGH);
  delay(500);
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, LOW);
  delay(500);
}

What to observe

Explain the relationship between a digital pin, the output voltage state, elapsed time and the visible LED. Change the delay and repeat.

Safety: Never connect mains voltage directly to an Arduino board. Use properly rated, isolated interfaces for external power systems.

Next challenge

Read a sensor value through the serial monitor and describe how you would handle noisy measurements or disconnected sensors.
